FARMHOUSE WEEKEND / BLIND BUCK VALLEY FARMSTEAD

We live to WEEKEND! [Hence, WeekendFamGoals!] So when Sarah, the farm owner, invited us to spend the weekend at Blind Buck Valley Farmstead in Salem, NY, we couldn’t wait to experience all that this beautiful farmland had to offer!

Blind Buck Valley Farmstead is a gorgeous family owned property about 3.5 hours north from New Jersey with the most picturesque landscape along the way.  We arrived at the farm early evening right before sunset and the view that welcomed us was absolutely stunning.

For me, it was everything you imagine a farmhouse setting to be -- the gorgeous red barns, rolling green hills, the cozy fire pit and of course, the quaint but large and lovely living space inside the farmhouse itself.  The original house or “little house” was built in 1795 but the rest of the house [“big house”] was added in 1805. BBVF is home to a family of goats, a variety of chickens, and a couple of friendly cats, which my daughter, Stella, fell in love with instantly.

The farm also hosts a few cows and a horse during the summer and fall seasons courtesy of Over East Family Farm.

There’s certainly a huge of amount of history within this farmhouse and you can feel the love from Sarah and her family throughout the years.

We read a bit of the farmhouse history during our stay and learned that after almost losing the property to commerical developers in 1993, Sarah along with her mother and sister saved the farm. Also known as the "Guttermuth Gals," they launched Blind Buck Valley Farmstead in hopes of providing a unique farm experience with a mission to become the backdrop to family gatherings, reunions and vacations. Personally, I think this beautiful landscape is an amazing location for gorgeous photoshoots!

Our stay at BBVF allowed us to unplug, unwind, and create priceless family memories that were far from our city lifestyle.  One of the highlights of the weekend was the farm tour provided by one of the caretakers, Krista Sullivan and her three sweet kiddos.  Along with our two, they all fed the chickens, harvested fresh eggs, pet the bunnies, and visited with the goats and cows. It was truly such a delight to experience those simple, but rich family farm traditions.

Throughout the year at BBVF you can hike through grassy meadows, take hay rides through the fields, as well as pick and carve your own pumpkin. During the winter months,  you can also snow shoe, cross-country ski and sled.

What’s most exciting about Blind Buck Valley Farmstead is all the new things to come for the property. I was thrilled to learn that Sarah and her team have even greater plans for the farmstead in the near future to update and provide an even more beautiful farmhouse experience. All kinds of gorgeous renovations are in the works, which I believe include turning one of the barns into the most stunning wedding venue! Amazing, right!

My family and I can’t wait to go back, hopefully next year, to see all the new improvements at Blind Buck Valley Farmstead! I hope you guys enjoyed a peek into our weekend getaway this fall, and If I were you, I’d make sure to book your stay soon!

Happy planning and thanks for reading!
