WEEKEND FAM GOALS SPRING BREAK: CAPE MAY

WELCOME TO THE SANDPIPER BEACH CLUB

Spring break in Cape May was exactly what we needed this year.  A quick two hour drive down the Jersey Shore and Boom! We were transported to the sweetest little beach town with prestine sandy beaches and picturesque victorian homes.  Although spring break was a bit later for us, the timing was perfect for enjoying that cape vibe without the crowds. We booked our two night stay at The Sandpiper Beach Club  and we serviously felt like we were on our own private beach.

The Sandpiper Beach Club is the perfect hotel solution for travelers who love the beach and Cape May and want a little more space to stretch out and savor the seashore, especially for longer visits. Perched right near the beach, the Sandpiper is a unique beach hotel, offering large one and two bedroom condominiums featuring fully equipped kitchens, washer/dryer (Yay!) and living rooms.  It’s the ideal choice for couples looking for that real beach house feel or families who need the convenience of extra room and a place to whip up a quick breakfast before the beach.

It's always a great sign when you're greeted with milk and cookies-- just ask my kids (who tore into this sweet treat before I could photograph an entire full plate of cookies, ha!)

Sandpiper Living Room w. Pull Out Couch

We booked a one-bedroom suite with full kitchen and living room and a gorgeous ocean view right outside our walkout balcony. It was perfect for our two night stay and we quickly settled into that easy breezy beachy vibe.

Sandpiper Fully Equipped Kitchen

Ok, so now you’re like, “Umm I didn’t come on vacay to cook! Any restaurant recommendations?”  Ha! I got you, girl! Here’s few of our faves:

RUSTY NAIL: CAPE MAY'S ICONIC SURFER BAR & RESTAURANT

The Nail" as it’s known by the locals, is the famed iconic surfer bar and restaurant that made a name for itself in the ‘70s. Back in the day lifeguards, surfers and beautiful beach bunnies gathered around the wood bar that was rumored to be the longest in all of Cape May.

Truth be told, we didn’t have the pleasure of experiencing this fun spot—which was a huge bummer! During spring break they were only open on weekends and our stay was during the week.  Lucky for you guys, The Rusty Nail is now open from May until December so join in the fun for breakfast, lunch or dinner with great live entertainment and a classic seaside menu. PS Tag me in your photo or drop me a line if you go!

Congress Hall + OTHER GREAT cape May RESTUARANTS

CONGRESS HALL

SEA SPA

THE BRILLANT HALLS IN CONGRESS HALL

CONGRESS HALL GROUNDS

BLUE PIG TAVEN:

The first tavern in Cape May, Blue Pig Tavern is tucked in the corner of Congress Hall between Congress Place and Perry Street.  Whether you're from the cape or a guest, all are welcome for breakfast, lunch or dinner and it's distincive dining room are laidback and family friend.

During our stay, we learned that it's name derives from a gambling parlor sited in Congress Hall in the mid-1800s. Earlier still, (1700s) Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site-- So much history!

The Brown Room: CONGRESS HALL'S STYLISH
PROHIBITION-ERA COCKTAIL LOUNGE

One of my favorite room in Congress Hall has to be The Brown Room -- Take a look at my Insta post here! There isn’t a more sophisticated way to wrap up your day (or start with a cup of coffee) in Cape May than an evening at this stylish lounge occupying the same spot as Congress Hall’s first legal post-Prohibition cocktail bar.
My husband was in love this bar and I don't blame him, lol.
Here’s a couple more that are not pictured but we enjoyed as well:

  • The Boiler RoomDown in the basement of Congress Hall you'll find the Boiler Room, a vibrant restaurant and lounge serving up delicious brick-oven pizza, cold draft beer, classic cocktails and live music featuring the best of local talent.
  • The Lobster HouseThe Lobster House, located overlooking Cape May Harbor in historic Cape May, NJ offers a large and varied seafood menu from their own fleet of commercial boats.

The Blue Pig Mascot

One of the fun amenities that the Sandpiper offered as part of the Cape Resorts, were different instructional classes such as slime making, archery, fishing and cooking classes.  Some were included with your stay and but some require registration along with an extra charge.  Both kids decided on participating in the cooking class which was an extra fee of $30 per child/$15 per adult.  I thought it was a tad bit pricey until I realized how much food they actually made!

They first started with mac and cheese, then on to a homemade pop tart, individual pizzas and then cupcake decorating! They wrapped up the two hour cooking event with a personal visit from The Blue Pig himself! It was super cute and totally worth it!

Cape May Sweet House
What I think we all loved most about Cape May, was how accessible everything seemed to be -- pretty much everything is within walking distance and bringing the kids’ scooters along turned out to be perfect transportation for little explorers, especially along Washington Street Mall.

BEACH PLUM FARM:

A BEAUTIFUL 62-ACRE WORKING FARM IN WEST CAPE MAY

Beach Plum Farm on our last full day there was by far the highlight of our stay for me.  I mean, just look at this gorgeous piece of heaven! Pictures really don't do it justice. I think visiting during off season was also a big part of the reason why it felt so enchanting. The farm, the flowers, the animals, and the trails were all so lovely and although we did not see them; I have since been told that Beach Plum Farm also rents gorgeous cottages on the property, Whoa! We're definitely making reservation next time, here!

Discover the old and open spaces of Beach Plum Farm tucked away in West Cape May.  Rooted in sustainable practices and a shared sense of community, Beach Plum Farm is proud to champion the timeless farming heritage of the Garden State.

The Farm actually provides produce and meats to local Cape May restaurants including The Ebbitt Room, the Blue Pig Tavern, the Rusty Nail, the Boiler Room, Louisa's Café and more.

Spending the afternoon at Beach Plum Farm was absolutely perfect!

Cape May is well worth the drive south for a bit of fun in the sun but over all to enjoy family and friends with an easy breezy hometown vibe.  If I’ve inspired your stay this spring or summer, I’d love to hear all about it!
